Learner centred teaching

What is learner centred teaching?

It’s the start of a new year…

What are you going to do to make your teaching and training more learner centred?

What are you going to do this year to really connect with your learners or students?

How are you going to improve your teaching?

It’s a great time to start thinking about how to improve your teaching practice.

And it’s a great time to ask yourself some serious questions about how you can create the conditions for learning success.

How do you create the conditions for learning success?

It doesn’t matter if you work with children, young people or adults.

You need to know some basic operating principles for creating a learner-centred teaching environment that sets up the conditions for learning success

The principles of good teaching transcend the labels we use

Do you describe yourself to others as one of these?

  • Teacher
  • Tutor
  • Trainer
  • Lecturer
  • Educator
  • Facilitator
  • Coach

Did I miss one? Whatever the case, the principles of good teaching and training apply across different teaching environments.

Sometimes you need to look at teaching through new eyes

If you feel stuck… or if you feel that you need some way to look at your work in education (and everyone works in education, by the way) then you need to investigate some of the time-honoured education-related approaches and concepts from Te Ao Māori – the Māori world.

12 Concepts from Te Ao Māori you should embrace to create learning success

I wrote this book primarily for vocational teachers and tutors, but the principles apply in any education setting.

And if you’ve read this far – and because it’s the start of the year – I’m going to reduce the cover price to USD$5 for the next 55 copies sold.

After that the price goes back up again. The link is here for the discounted version:

Please feel free to share this with your colleagues if you think there’s something here they need to know.

Today at Burnside High School you presented at our COL and commented that you have a book online that is free about “Pakeha to learn child centered learning.” Could you please send me the link. I can’t find it.

Hi Ann. It wasn’t me sorry. There are numerous Graeme Smiths including several in education. However, I also have a book on learner-centred teaching although it’s geared at adult education. It’s here: https://gum.co/12concepts
