I’m currently working on developing a set of generic project templates that tutors can use to bring together unit standards 22664 (Reading) and 22662 (Writing) in the context of some other narrowly focused topic of study. I’ll add 26625 later as well if this works well enough. Here’s what I’ve done so far: My initial…

Let’s just say it might have 9 figures. That’s how invested the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) is in the infrastructure that we now have for literacy and numeracy in New Zealand. That infrastructure…

That’s my conclusion to myself at least. Education is expensive. This is because of high fixed costs like buildings, resources, managers, teachers. The technology for online education is now cheap. Educational bureaucracies are firing the middle layer of managers. In fact, traditional bureaucracies of any kind are firing the entire middle class. This…

Will literacy and numeracy professional development qualifications (NCALNE or NZCALNE) be compulsory for level 1 and 2 tutors from 2015?
This could be the writing on the wall with regards to levels 1 and 2 tutors: From 2015, it is a likely requirement of SAC and Youth Guarantee funding that tutors at levels 1 and 2 have gained the National Certificate in Adult Literacy Educator (Vocational or Educator). If this requirement is confirmed we will expect…
