Reading Comprehension Is A Bigger Deal Than People Realise
I’ve written about how to hack reading and listening comprehension before here and more recently updated my earlier material here.
Trust Me I’m A Teacher
I’m a teacher and course writer. I started out teaching English as a second language (ESOL) in 1996 and later moved into adult education and other things but often with a focus on professional development for teachers, trainers and educators.
I’ve worked as an education consultant since 2004. And in that time I’ve written A LOT of stuff including a bunch of different courses and training materials for face-to-face, blended and online delivery.
How To Hack Reading Comprehension
One of the things that I learned along the way was how to hack reading and listening comprehension so that I could tell whether my students actually understood what I was saying.
Checking others’ understanding is something that people don’t often think about, but it’s teachable. I know because I’ve taught these skills to folks at home and overseas.
If You Teach, You Need to Know Whether People Understand You
It doesn’t matter if you’re a teacher, or some kind of content expert or just keen to create a course to teach others your skills, you need to know whether people really “get it”.
Actually, you don’t need to know. There are plenty of courses out there that just dump a lot of information in front of you. But there is a better way if you actually care about your learners.
If you care about what people are learning (or buying) from you then you need to find out whether they understand what you’re saying.
Because if they don’t, and you don’t know it, you can’t do anything to help them get better let alone improve your product or whatever it is you’re teaching or selling.

That’s where this book comes in. It’s a summary of what I learned hacking reading and listening comprehension and it updates the other material I’ve posted on my blog from time to time over the years.
I hope you can use it to make a difference to your customers and learners.
More importantly, though, I hope you can use this material to develop skills in others that will allow them to reach new levels of understanding and draw strategic conclusions from what they learn.

However, I’m going to share the guts of my book right here. You can download it for FREE and save yourself the time.
