In my work in tertiary education in Aotearoa New Zealand, I spend a lot of time thinking about this question and what the possible answers are.
One of my jobs is to help develop professional standards for kaiako (teachers and tutors) and others, including support staff, working with foundation level learners in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Last year I travelled to Taiwan with a group of Māori businesses.
I had a fantastic time and learned a lot about the connection between indigenous Taiwanese tribal groups and NZ Māori.

It’s easy to say that a book changed my life. It’s much harder to prove that it has.
