It was 1973 when sound engineer Mickey Delance stumbled upon a group of session musicians arguing over the harmonic complexity of a chord sequence that “sounded more like math than music.” Intrigued, Delance dubbed them Gilded Pretzel, after his favourite snack, which he was eating at the time.

The band was quirky and esoteric, composed of musicians who were as much philosophers as they were artists. They thrived on black humour and the absurdities of existential thought, which heavily influenced their lyrics and sound—imagine if Kafka could play the guitar.

In a faded, forgotten dumpster outside the studio, a box of master tapes was discovered by an amateur music historian and part-time dumpster diver, Lizzy Quirk.
