Resource & Materials Development SuperPrompts for Educators
- Use these three prompts with Chat GPT to help you create resources for your teaching content.
- Your mileage may vary… sometimes GPT gets it right, sometimes not. I have no idea why.
- If it’s not delivering the results you want then check the prompt or experiment further.

1. Create a contextualised glossary of terms with examples
Step 1: Use this prompt in Chat GPT
- Copy and paste (or type in) the following prompt
Please identify 10 words in the text below that are not part of the first 1000 (1K), second thousand (2K) or Academic word list (AWL). These words should be “Off-list” words and technical or specialised words from the specified context given below. Do not output these words on their own, but use them to create a plain English glossary with active voice definitions and example sentences using the provided context. Organise the glossary in a table format, including each term’s word, definition, and example sentence. In the example sentences, display the keyword in bold, like this **Word 1**. Context: [input specific context] [Insert Short Text Here] |
- Add your specific context
Step 2: Copy and paste in your text
- Identify the text that you want to work with
- Copy it to your clipboard i
- Copy and paste in your short text below the prompt
- Hit enter when you’re ready to compile the glossary

2. Create a partial cloze assessment from your glossary
Step 1: Use this prompt in Chat GPT
- Copy and paste (or type in) the following prompt
You are going to write a partial cloze sentence for each term in the glossary above. To do this you will apply the following rules. If the term is a short single word then apply only Rule 1 below. If the term is a longer single word then apply only Rule 2 below. If the term is more than one word then apply only Rule 3 below. Rule 1: Keep the first 2 or 3 letters and replace the remaining letters of that word with underscores. After the partial cloze sentence, add the correct answer in brackets. Rule 2: Keep the first 4 letters and replace the remaining letters of that word with underscores, e.g. “_”. After the partial cloze sentence, add the correct answer in brackets. Rule 3: Keep the first 3 letters of the first word and replace the remaining letters of that word with underscores. Then replace the letters in any subsequent words with underscores as well, e.g. “_”. After the partial cloze sentence, add the correct answer in brackets. Partial Cloze sentences with answers: |

3. Create tailored multi-choice reading comprehension questions from the same text
Step 1: Generate questions
- Copy and paste (or type in) the following prompt
Please create 5 reading comprehension questions for the same text we used for the glossary and partial cloze sentences: Make sure to include a variety of question types, such as identifying details, understanding the main idea, vocabulary in context, identifying relationships, making inferences, and evaluating or analyzing the text. Also, provide multiple-choice options (A, B, C, and D) for each question. Provide the answer as well. |

4. Extra for experts
- See if you can get it to add a fourth column to your glossary in another language.
- Ask it to translate the reading comprehension questions into another language.
