THIS IS GRAEME SMITH

Kia ora…! I’m Graeme, a writer, educator, musician and coffee lover based in Aotearoa New Zealand. I’m passionate about helping people learn and grow, and I believe that education should be accessible to everyone.

MY BACKGROUND

I’ve worked in a variety of roles in the education sector, from teaching English as a foreign language in Japan to designing and delivering professional development programs for teachers in New Zealand.

I also have experience in instructional design and curriculum development, and I’m always looking for new ways to innovate and improve the learning experience.

MY WORK

Currently, I’m working as a freelance educator and writer, focusing on topics related to education, technology, and culture. I also offer consulting, advisory and training services to education providers and organisations. If you’re interested in working together, please reach out! Here are some more details on what I do.

WRITING

As well as a blog with more than a thousand articles on a multitude of topics, I’ve written courses, technical documents, qualifications, micro-credentials, digital badges, learning outcomes, how-to guides, compliance documentation, funding applications, reviews, research, fiction, music and more.

TEACHING

My education work includes:

Professional development work with vocational teachers, foundation educators and others. My professional development work focuses on capability building related to hauora/health, literacy, numeracy, and cultural capability. Recently, this included developing a professional standards framework with Ako Aotearoa.
Consulting and advisory services to tertiary education organisations, government departments and companies. My consulting services focus on capability building with an emphasis on hauora/health, literacy, numeracy, and cultural capability.
Education management services to tertiary education organisations including quality assurance, writing qualifications and micro-credentials and other compliance work.
Exploring the potential applications of artificial intelligence, such as GPT, and how they can transform learning, teaching, and assessment. I also share my knowledge and teach these skills to others.

MAKING

As well as making courses and resources and delivering training in my education work I also write and record music and make cool stuff out of leather, wood and other materials. MY INTERESTS

I’m interested in a lot of different things. I’ve already mentioned a lot of it but I’m also interested in generative AI art, rongoa Māori, the outdoors, craft and craftsmanship, BBQ and smoking meat, distillation especially gin and spirits, leatherwork, entrepreneurship, music, fitness including running, service design, design thinking, and export education.
