We’re in the process of trying to design an online Learning Outcomes configurator. You’ll be able to select all of these options from drop-down menus and create the learning outcomes you want to embed the literacy and numeracy that your learners need into your own context. Until this is online, here’s the manual version.
Instructions
- Choose a word on the left to frame the kind of learning.
- Choose a phrase on the right to add the focus area for reading.
- Add your own specific context.
These learning outcomes reference the progressions in the Read to Understand strand of the Learning Progressions.

Graeme Thanks for all this information. Always read. I never use Understand in learning outcomes as it is hard to measure as what i understand about Literacy, for example, may be very different to what you understand but equally valid. Mark
Hi Mark. Yes, I know what you mean. I have an ongoing internal debate about which of these words to include or exclude. The words come from Bloom’s Taxonomy. And there are different versions of it. I’d be happy to delete “understand” but I know that some people like it and use it. And it always pops up on the various Blooms lists whenever I check. Good call though… Ultimately, it’s up to tutors to decide how to frame the learning in ways that are best for them and their learners. Nice to know that someone is reading…! Hopefully, some version of this will become an interactive web app at some stage. Then you can tinker easily with learning outcomes. Cheers, G
